Youre panicked, yet resigned, as you take that last sighing breath before opening the door. Jury duty? A funeral? Dinner with the in-laws? You wish. Youre at work and youre miserable. It seems like at some point in time every individual finds himself or herself in an intolerable, yet inescapable, job. Maybe you dont trust the job market enough to call it quits right now. Maybe youre waiting for that seemingly perpetually out-of-reach promotion. Whatever the reason, youre sticking it out and you might as well make the most of it. We want to help you make the most of a less-than-ideal situation. So here are five things to look at when you just hate your job. Attitude can seriously affect job performance. While you try to find a job or tough it out with a promotion in mind, dont let negativity turn you from victim into the problem. First things first: Whats making you miserable? Is it the actual work, your boss or a coworker? Can anything be done to remedy it? If its your actual job, talk to your coworkers. More often than not, theres an aspect of their responsibilities that theyre struggling to enjoy. Swapping small responsibilities for one youre more suited for will not only improve your mood but office productivity as well. If you stop looking at your job as a chore and see it as an opportunity to work toward a purpose youll notice a huge difference in your daily outlook. Get Involved. Are you involved in office life? Do you even know your coworkers last names? Jobs arent unlike college and grade school. Making friends, or at least someone you can chat with, makes a huge difference. Here are a few suggestions: Suggest an office outing once a week. Bring a treat to share with everyone. Join your offices fantasy football league (sports-related managerial skills or not). A little friendly effort can go a long way. Having something in common with your coworkers besides a mutual disdain for your careers will break up the monotony of your conversations, and hey, who knows, maybe youll mix a smile in every here and there. Working toward something is very different from working through something. Where do you want to be in five years? Can you achieve that with your current company, and are you on track to do so? Give yourself a timeline of what you want to achieve and by when, then clearly lay out your goals and speak with your supervisor. Generally a boss wants their employees to do well and advance. If they can help you on your path to personal success they will. If they cant, at least youll know that its time to look elsewhere either within or outside of the company. Dont take your misery (your job) home with you. Make sure that there is a distinct difference between your work life and home life. Finish sending those emails before you leave the office instead of bringing any negative energy or stress home with you. If you arent expected to be available at all times, disable any work-related push notifications on your cell phone. The stress of simple notifications slowly building up can have you dreading the next workday before you even get home from todays. Your home should be a happy and calm place for you to unwind. Also, your family and friends arent your therapists. Sharing negative feelings only breeds more of them. Focus on the good parts of your day (it was Taco Tuesday!) rather than the dismal. The same way that negativity can cut things down, a positive demeanor at home will build up your personal and family relationships. Sunshine and exercise can do wonders for a stressed mind and body. Sunlight promotes endorphin and serotonin production in the body. Both of these majorly contribute to a positive mood. According to the Mayo Clinic, exercise is a healthy coping mechanism that“gets your mind away from the cycle of negative thoughts that feed anxiety and depression.”Physical exercise also releases endorphins and positive neurotransmitters. Going for a jog, playing a game of pick-up basketball or walking your dog after work are all healthy ways to wind down from the stress of your job. Before your unhappiness affects your work and results in termination, step back and assess how youre handling these five things. Are you working to keep a positive attitude, staying involved and pursuing your goals? Are you keeping a healthy body, mind and home environment? Its important to not allow yourself to feel like youre in a helpless situation, as you are not. Take control of yourself and your situation. They are more interested in group achievements as opposed to chasing their own goals. By consistently pouring out encouragement, caring and recognition, your co-workers will become more drawn to you.   Regardless of whether or not you are management, take every opportunity to inject self-confidence into those who earned it. In the end Most significant things at work and in life require work, study and most important, practice. Leadership is no different.   Understand that no one is born a leader. Rather, they decide to mold themselves into one.

Chloe Smith gives us her tips how to move forward when you get rejected from your dream job. Since we were kids, we all have a dream job in mind. Some of them wild fantasies that will probably always remain daydreams, but some of them also totally achievable, with enough work and time and effort. Say that with all that hours spent working hard, you’re even lucky enough to get so close to actually getting your dream job, you even get an interview… but then, you get turned down. Don’t despair this list is for you and remember, one door closes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t open it again in the future. Dont let it get you down Okay, so you’ve just missed out on your dream job so you’re allowed to be a bit devastated. But the key is to not let it upset you for too long. Talk about how you’re feeling if you need to, but deal with your feelings as soon as you’re able to so you can move onto being your motivated and amazing self. This rejection might have been a big one, but it’s not the end, so try not to get too down about it, because you never know what’s just around the corner. Ask for feedback We all know how important feedback is, and if you’re able to email or ask to get any kind of feedback on how you did in your interview, then do it. That feedback could be key in helping you focus and working on developing some skills or answers that would mean you get the job next time. Look back and honestly assess how you think you did, and then compare it to their feedback. How do you think you did? Does it match up? But try not to be too hard on yourself just because you didn’t get the job! You will have done well in some areas compared to others. Learn from the experience Accessing how you did is important, but there’s no point in realising how you could improve if you don’t then actively try and improve and better your skills. Even though you didn’t get the job this time, learn from the experience and use this knowledge to work on your skills, your own experience, and anything else you think will make them unable to refuse you next time. If you feel like the experience has taught you that you need to improve your CV or interview skills, for example, then just take it as a positive because now you have the time, and the chance to make them even better than you were before. In terms of developing your CV, if you have the time, volunteering is a great place to start. A local library, museum, charity shop or community radio would be great places to develop and gain skills in different areas, that will all be beneficial in terms of improving your CV, as well as allowing you to network, too, if you can gain some voluntary work in an area you’d like a career in. Dont give up The most important thing to do is to not give up on your dreams. Cliché, I know, but it’s true. Even though you’ve lost out this time doesn’t mean you’ll never get that job sometime in the future, or that you’ll never achieve what you want to achieve. Don’t let this one failure stop from being successful, maybe this just wasn’t the right time but if you keep doing all you can and stay motivated, you’re bound to be successful next time or the time after that. Just don’t let this stop you, otherwise, you’ll never find out! Try, try again Even though you’ve not had this opportunity, it doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty more out there. Be sure to keep checking Debut and any of your other favourite job sites as you never know what kind of perfect opportunity could be advertised next. Check any job sites local to you as well your local councils, and any local businesses or companies websites, too as not all jobs are always posted to the larger sites, and you could always strike lucky if you do a few extra searches. The important thing is to stay proactive because you never know when or where your next (dream) job could appear some businesses and companies not only just advertise jobs on their careers pages anymore, some advertise jobs on their social media or in their newsletters, for example, so just keep trying and searching because you never know what you’ll find, and how amazing it could be! In a survey by Accountemps, more than half of accounting and finance professionals polled felt only somewhat prepared for their first job after college, with 14 percent saying they did not feel ready at all. Among their top concerns: an inability to handle office politics, inadequate technology or software skills, and a lack of the soft skills like industry awareness, flexibility and time management. While there are many things students can (and should!) do to prepare for their first jobs out of school, there are also steps employers may want to take to ease the transition after a new grad has been hired. Start with these five tips: 1. Extend a warm welcome Making recent college graduates feel welcome at your workplace â€" even before their start date â€" can really pay off. From the time of their hire, encourage them to stay in touch by phone or email with any questions, and consider creating a Facebook group to help them keep up with company news and further familiarize themselves with your culture. Hosting special events is also a good idea; a first day on the job can be far less intimidating for newbies who’ve already mixed and mingled with members of their team. 2. Nurture new talent A new graduate stands a better chance of succeeding in his or her role with the right support. Ensure you have more tenured staff members available to assist post-college employees in transitioning to working full time, and set up appropriate orientation and training programs to bring your new hires up to speed. From mentorships to job shadowing to hands-on training, well-executed onboarding measures will prove to be invaluable to your long-term investment in new graduates â€" particularly those who see themselves as lifelong learners (and many of them do). 3. Meet them halfway on communication preferences There’s no denying that today’s college grads keep in touch differently than previous generations, thanks to new modes of communication like email and texting. While traditional oral and written communication is taught in school, recent graduates may still need guidance. By the same token, as an employer, it may be necessary for you and members of your team to adapt to a post-college hire’s style of communication. In other words, the key to success here is compromise. 4. Nip issues in the bud If you see an attitude or behavior that needs to be corrected, address it immediately. For example, while it may seem obvious to a seasoned professional that proper business attire is required upon meeting a client, a new graduate may not have received the (often-unwritten) memo. Hopefully, he or she will only need to be reminded once before you see a change. 5. Promote collaboration Professionals fresh from graduation like the freedom to accomplish their tasks, but they also favor collaborating with their colleagues as a team, according to recent Accountemps research on members of “Generation Z.” The survey showed that 64 percent of Gen Z respondents prefer working collaboratively with a small group in an office setting, versus working offsite. Companies that embrace new college graduates and step up their retention efforts when it comes to these hires will reap the benefits. They will be better able to capitalize on this generation’s good ideas and passionate engagement.
